BENGALURU — NeuralIndia, a Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence company building large language models trained specifically on Hindi and 12 other Indian languages, has raised $12 million in a Series A funding round led by Tiger Global Management, with participation from Peak XV Partners and the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF).
Building India's AI Future
The company was founded in 2022 by five IIT Bombay graduates who identified a significant gap in the AI landscape: despite being the world's most linguistically diverse country with 22 scheduled languages and over 1,600 dialects, India had almost no dedicated multilingual large language model infrastructure.
NeuralIndia's flagship product, BharatGPT, can understand and generate text in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, Odia, Punjabi, Malayalam, Urdu, and Assamese — covering over 95% of India's population.
Market Opportunity
CEO Arjun Mehta said the funding would be used to expand the engineering team from 45 to 200 engineers, with dedicated linguists and data annotators for each Indian language. "The next billion internet users in India will primarily communicate in their native languages. We are building the infrastructure for that future," he said.
