BHUBANESWAR — India produced one of the great comebacks in FIH Pro League history on Wednesday, overcoming a 0-3 first-half deficit to stun the Netherlands 4-3 at the Kalinga Stadium, driven by a second-half hat-trick from captain Hardik Singh.
The Turnaround
Trailing 0-3 at half-time after a dominant Dutch display, India emerged after the break as a transformed side. Hardik Singh, playing in his 100th international cap, scored in the 38th, 47th, and 52nd minutes — each goal more spectacular than the last — before Lalit Upadhyay completed the astonishing turnaround with a drag-flick in the 58th minute.
"At half-time, the coach just said one thing: 'Play for the jersey.' Something clicked. The crowd was incredible — 15,000 people believed we could do it, and we fed off that energy," Hardik said.
Olympic Momentum
Head coach Craig Fulton called the result "the best 30 minutes of hockey this team has ever played" and said the result had galvanised the squad ahead of the crucial Australia fixture next week. A win would secure India's place in the Pro League semifinals for the first time.
